FREE TERMITE INSPECTION WITH A HOME INSPECTION

Excellent Home Inspection Services understands that your home is your most valuable asset. Termites are capable of doing thousands of dollars in damage that can go unnoticed. I am a licensed “Wood Destroying Insect" Inspector by the state of Indiana. Below is an active termite colony I found during a normal home inspection.

FAQ ABOUT TERMITES

  • Approximately 35 to 40% of homes we inspect have termite damage.
  • Termites are estimated to cause millions of dollars in damage per year.
  • In Indiana, the most common termite is the Eastern Subterranean Termite.
  • Termites will infest structures with all types of foundations; crawlspaces, slab on grade, and basements.
  • Termites are social insects that rely on each other to support the colony.  Examples of classifications include swarmers, reproductives, soldiers, and workers.
  • Termites need wood for food and typically get their moisture from the soil.
  • Termites build "shelter tubes" from mud to bridge or span foundation walls and other masonry that separate wood from soil. They construct these tubes on the walls or inside them in voids and cracks. Occasionally, when a leaky roof or pipe provides moisture, termite infestations are established without soil contact.
  • Termites will eat pressure treated wood and the paper on drywall.
  • A house can be pre-treated for termites during the home's building process.
  • We recommend annual termite inspections.
