FAQ ABOUT MOLD

  • Molds are very common in buildings and homes. Mold will grow in places with a lot of moisture, such as around leaks in roofs, windows, or pipes, or where there has been flooding.
  • Mold grows well on paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles, and wood products. Mold can also grow on dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery.
  • Mold can enter your home through open doorways, windows, vents, and heating and air conditioning systems. Mold in the air outside can also attach itself to clothing, shoes, and pets and carried indoors.
  • According to the US EPA, there is no practical way to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment.
  • Mold can make people sick.
  • The only way to control mold is to control water. Keep humidity below 51% with a dehumidifier, if necessary, use bathroom fans during showers, fix plumbing leaks, fix roof leaks, clean areas up that get wet as soon as found.
  • No matter what type of mold is present, you should remove it. 
  • Clean suspected mold up as soon as it is found to mitigate the risk of getting sick.
  • Mold can be a problem in a house without visible signs.
  • Mold risk include wet basements, houses that were built without an air conditioner, houses that have been through a water event (plumbing, flooding), vacant homes, leaky roof, etc.
